Open Margin is a student-led, open-access journal for research of any age across the humanities, social sciences, and STEM.
The question is not only, “Will this get accepted?” It is also, “What would make the argument harder to dismiss?”
Open Margin is a volunteer-run project founded in Washington. It gives students a place to send research from a class, independent study, capstone, or mentorship and receive a serious editorial read.
We cover the humanities, social sciences, and STEM. We only take work we can evaluate responsibly, so specialized STEM papers depend on the right editor or advisor being available.
Editorial commitments

There are no submission, publication, membership, or expedited-review fees.

A decision matters, but the notes behind it should still help when the author starts the next draft.

Student editors shape the journal. Academic advisors help with calibration, difficult decisions, and work outside the team’s expertise.

Our rubric, policies, timelines, and annual editorial statistics belong on the site.
Pilot masthead
We will publish names after the founding team and advisory roles are confirmed. Affiliations identify expertise only; they do not imply institutional endorsement.
