Submission guideVolume 01 · Autumn 2026
Open Margin is a free journal for research papers, essays, and projects by authors of any age. We publish work in the humanities, social sciences, and STEM. An editor reads each submission before we decide whether to review it.
A short introduction
Open Margin gives research a careful next reader. Watch this short introduction, then read the process before you submit.
Meet the journalOur premise
Grades and résumés are not the whole point. Good comments show what works, what needs work, and what to try next.

Volume 01 currently lists 3 pilot records under public audit. We will describe a paper as published only after review, revision, author approval, and a readable final file are verified.
After you submit
Our standards are public. Reviewers use one rubric. Editors make the final decision and explain it in writing.
Read the complete processAn editor checks that the paper fits our scope, is original work, and is ready for review.
Two reviewers read the question, evidence, method, and writing. Each reviewer sends written comments.
An editor considers the reviews and sends a decision letter with comments and next steps. We aim to give useful feedback when we decline a paper.
For authors and mentors
Authors of any age can read the guide, check the process, and submit original work in the humanities, social sciences, and STEM. Mentors and programs can share the same public information with students.
